How My World has Changed in Eleven Years

Eleven years ago, this day was a blizzard and I was in labor awaiting the arrival of Miss CE in the afternoon.
Yesterday, the day was sunny and cool and I awaited her arrival from school in the afternoon.

Eleven years ago, I prepared for her arrival by taking a childbirth class at the hospital.
Now, I'm finding a safe sitter class at the hospital so my budding tween can hone some childcare skills of her own.

Eleven years ago, I was a law student trying to fit childbirth and a newborn into my last semester of school.
Now, we're juggling seven routines, and wildly varying needs and desires and I haven't practiced law in two years.

Motherhood being the strange combination of Groundhog Day and whiplash, it doesn't seem quite possible that the 9 lb baby I brought home to our little apartment in Utah is now the eleven year old downloading new music on her nano today. But she is.

CE wanted to decorate her own cake this year. Because of time constraints, I did the pink icing and she did the basket weave stripes. I see many more complicated and beautiful designs in her future!

She is such a grown up kid she no longer needs a chair to blow out her candles!

Oh what a ride the last eleven years have been. Hold on to your hats! I have a feeling it's really going to get interesting now. But so long as beautiful, talented, wonderful CE is around, it will be the best ride possible.
