Proof that I am Old

Some very nice people in one of our former wards invited us to a New Years' Eve party last night. I'm sure it was lovely. But I am old now and the thought of staying up to usher in the new year at midnight was not the slightest bit enticing to me. In fact, I can think of few otherwise socially acceptable things that would have felt more like torture than staying up late in "cute" clothes.

Instead, we made pizza as a family and convinced the children to toast in the new year with sparkling cherry juice at 8:30 pm and we sent them to bed. DH and I got in our jammies, ate some Golden Spoon frozen yogurt, watched Wall-E from the comfort of our own family room and we were in bed and falling asleep by 11pm.

One of my sisters once had a quest to have the perfect New Years' celebration. Each year she would assure us all that whatever the celebration was it would be "huge." I'm sure her young and happening self would have been sorely disappointed at our "celebration" this year. But for me, this was the perfect way to usher in the new year--asleep. Perhaps by sleeping in the new year, the cosmic powers of the universe will grant me my great and unfulfilled wish to actually get some sleep on a regular basis. We can hope right?

I've decided that New Year's is about the worst holiday ever. So much anticipation and pressure to have fun. For the past two years, we've played at A's parents' house and let the older kids sleep over so we can stay there until midnight. Last year was such a dud that we actually took pictures of ourselves pretending to have a fun time. This year was slightly better but I almost fell asleep a bunch of times.

Sleeping through it all sounds like a much better plan. :)

The last couple of years we have had friends and family over to our house for munchies and games until they want to leave....usually everyone leaves about 2 minutes after the ball drops but it's been a little more relaxing then running around in search of the perfect New Year's Eve place and I must say climbing into bed seconds after they leave is lovely. My kids slept into until 10am this morning so it all works out.

I will say the year 2000 I was asleep before the ball dropped and that should have been my biggest party ever!!

Sounds like your crazy days are over. :) I've always been a night owl so I don't mind the staying up part...as long as I'm home and in my jammies. One year, we ventured onto the strip. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN. ever.
