Pinewood Derby: Twice is Nice

This year, Z and CW designed and assembled their cars in the wood shop of DH's bishopric counselor, and then spent hours with Grandpa F weighing and graphiting and all other things that are important in a block of racing wood.

Morning dawned on race day and we made our way to the Stake Center (in all honesty, I shouldn't have gone. I was dead sick. It was the only thing I did that day and it very nearly killed me.) We have a VERY large Cub Scout pack, so the event lasted a few hours. Neither of our boys won the event, but both their cars raced well in more than one heat, so they weren't dead last either. It's fun for me, as mom, to watch the boys and their dad make the plans and execute them, especially because it's special time they don't otherwise get much of with dad. I am so grateful that our ward doesn't have any of "those" dads who overtake their sons' cars in some misplaced hunt for lost glory. Each car bore the mark of the boys and fun (and treats) were had by all.

That said, I'm glad it's over till next year :)
