Going Going and Almost Gone

There is something delightful and fleeting about discussions with my almost 3yr old Miss M. This is her chosen Halloween costume. Every day, I find her putting it on and I have to re-explain that it's not time yet.

We were talking about being big, as we often do, and how big girls wear panties and go pee-pee in the potty. Yes, she says and princess panties with Ella, and Sleeping Pooty, and Snow Wipe, and Jacksimine. Yes, all of those.

I used to listen to a Billy Joel song in the maudlin days of my teen aged years. The chorus went like this:

This is the time to remember
'Cause it will not last forever
These are the days to hold on to
'Cause we won't, although we'll want to
This is the time,
But time is gonna change

Every season has its moments lost forever. The moments of my baby's babyhood seem particularly slippery these days. She's talking so much and with so much authority. She asks the RS president for licolish from the jar on her kitchen counter. She begs the piano teacher for purple lowlipops. She is a woman of her own mind who told me this morning that she is six. Isn't time flying fast enough already without skipping 3 years?

Be still my heart, Pink Batgirl. Six will be here before we know it, but can you just stay almost 3 for a little while longer?

I love it! (not the growing up part--that's bittersweet, but the costume is awesome.)

I haven't thought about those lyrics forever. They almost made me tear up in the context you referred to! I thought they were great in reference to the teenage years when I was there, but this is probably even a better application. :)

Okay LOVE the costume!! Oddly enough my kids have not even mentioned Halloween or what they want to be. It's actually kind of weird. Go Pink Bat Girl Go!!
