What a wonderful thing a crockpot is

Dinner is the current bane of my existence. My family is picky. Each and every one of them is an extremely picky eater in a slightly different way than the others, so that there is no humanly possible way to make one meal that will please and nourish all members, with the exception of some sort of breakfast for dinner and while I love breakfast for dinner, I can only flip so many flapjacks in any given week before I want out.
So, every day, I find myself scanning my brain for ideas, plans, menus and options. Today was no different except in one respect: I put black beans in the crockpot this morning so dinner is actually taken care of! But I am forgetful of most things, so each time I begin to scan for ideas (ie: in Costco, should I get the rotisserie chicken? after lunch, should I start pizza dough? should I defrost meat? etc), I remember again that dinner is taken care of, for today at least, and I get downright giddy. This day has just been filled with little interludes of crockpot-induced giddiness (yes, I am that forgetful.)
Now of course, all giddiness will flee when the picky people come home and begin to complain that they don't LIKE black beans. Bam has already explained to me that beans are DOO-sgusting. But he will eat the rice. So will other members of the family. Some will eat the beans, but not the sausage. It will all work out after a fashion. I will not let this dampen my glee: dinner is done and it's not even 4pm!

Congrats on your accomplishment! I need to start using my crockpot more regularly. And also somehow convince my children (other than T) that soup is not evil.

The crockpot is a marvelous invention! In fact - I think I will use mine for dinner tomorrow. I can totally relate to the picky eater syndrome. Dinner is always an adventure :)

My only problem is that sometimes when I do use my crockpot I end up disappointed in the end. It will smell all good all day long. I will have little moments of joy like you describe knowing that not only is dinner done but the prep dishes are done too. I love it. I just don't always love the recipes that I use. I'm trying new ones so it's tricky. Some smell better than they taste. I still love the crockpot though! A woman must have invented that baby!

I think I would fall down and throw a temper tantrum if someone took my crockpot away. I found a great site - - a woman who dedicated herself to cooking dinner in her crockpot every day for a year! Holler if you want the link - - there are some good recipes on there... hope you are well, Angie!
