President Hinckley remembered
I walked into the branch building with my companion and found the branch president’s wife sitting quietly on the stairs by herself. “Presidente Hunter faleceu”(Pres Hunter passed away), she quietly said and I just sat down next to her and we hugged each other. What else do you do? For we knew he was in that better place. And now more than 12 years later, I am no longer that missionary but the mom of 5 crazy kids when I learn that President Hinckley has gone home to his sweet Marjorie and while I am sad that we will have no more of his tender testimonies or prophetic blessings, how can I be sad for him? For he is no longer lonely, he has left “this frail existence”; he has gone home–fighting the good fight to the end and I only wish that I and those I love can be that valiant. I am so grateful for his leadership these 12years, for his words of wisdom whether they be comforting or more of a smackdown, but especially for the way in which his very existence at the head of this church which I love only strengthened my knowledge that he was serving as mouthpiece for the Savior and that his words were His. Rest in Peace President Hinckley. We love you.
